After a violent standoff leaves a police officer wounded and an abuser dead, a volunteer police chaplain struggles with survivor's guilt, a painful internal investigation, and the question of whether his presence ever truly makes a difference.

The Chaplain

The Chaplain is a character-driven drama thriller set over a single night ride-along with a police chaplain in a Northern California community. When a domestic violence call escalates into a hostage situation and officer-involved shooting, Chaplain Luke White, a caregiver accustomed to helping others through crisis, is forced to confront his own crisis of faith and the emotional cost of carrying other people's pain.

Drawing from my real-world experience as a senior police chaplain, the screenplay offers an authentic look at a profession rarely portrayed on screen. The story combines the first-responder realism of End of Watch with the spiritual and emotional depth of Bringing Out the Dead, exploring trauma, resilience, redemption, and hope through the eyes of someone who serves on the front lines of human suffering.

The project is intended for both faith-based and mainstream audiences, appealing to viewers of character-driven dramas, first-responder stories, and inspirational films. The Chaplain sheds light on the unseen role of public safety chaplains while telling a universal story about compassion, sacrifice, and finding purpose in the darkest moments.

I believe this film should be made because it introduces audiences to a unique and authentic world while addressing timely issues including first responder wellness, trauma recovery, and the human need for connection and hope.

EXPANDING THE WORLD: SECRET RAVINE

The Chaplain is part of a larger story universe.

Secret Ravine is a completed one-hour dramatic television pilot set in the same Northern California community featured in The Chaplain. Through the interconnected lives of police officers, firefighters, chaplains, public officials, and residents, the series explores the hidden crises unfolding behind the facade of a quiet Gold Country town.

When a catastrophic wildfire threatens Secret Ravine, first responders and community leaders must confront failures in public safety, homelessness, addiction, family trauma, and faith. At the center is Chaplain Luke White, whose role places him at the intersection of every life-changing event in town.

The Chaplain introduces the world. Secret Ravine expands it.
